Experience the best of the Great Lakes with a Lake Erie private fishing charter (walleye) designed for results. Our trips are tailored to the season, offering a Lake Erie jigging charter (Detroit River) during the spring run and transitioning to a Lake Erie trolling charter (Michigan) as the fish move into deeper waters. Whether you are interested in a Lake Erie nearshore walleye charter or a full day offshore walleye fishing trip, our team uses specialized techniques like bottom fishing and trolling to ensure your cooler stays full. We take pride in being a family friendly walleye charter on Lake Erie, welcoming anglers of all ages. For those bringing younger children, please notify us in advance so we can provide U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets in the correct sizes; safety is our priority, and children 12 and under must wear a vest while on the vessel. To keep your energy up during a half day walleye fishing charter, we recommend bringing snacks and sandwiches to enjoy between bites. Our Lake Erie walleye fishing trips with a captain and mate take place aboard a 26' Sea Swirl Walkaround, a stable and efficient vessel equipped with downriggers and an onboard portapotty for your comfort. We provide top-tier gear, including Daiwa North Coast rods and Saltist reels, ensuring you have the best tools for guided walleye fishing on Lake Erie. Our crew is always happy to share professional tips and answer questions, making this an educational experience for those seeking an experienced walleye fishing guide in Michigan. To prepare for your Lake Erie walleye charter on the Michigan side, please ensure you have a valid local fishing license and a photo ID, as our routes often take us near Canadian and Pennsylvania borders. While we provide the bait and lures, we recommend you bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a cooler to transport your catch. After your trip, you can relax at the marina’s climate-controlled pub while our staff prepares your fish. Book your Lake Erie walleye charter online today to secure your preferred date on the water.

Gemini said Find the answers to your most common questions about booking, pricing, and what to expect on your Lake Erie walleye fishing charter in Dunkirk, NY, to ensure your private trip is seamless and worry-free.

Captain James Plinzke’s connection to the Great Lakes began at just three years old, sparked by the moment he first held a fishing rod. With over 30 years of experience navigating these waters, his transition from a young enthusiast to a premier guide was driven by a deep-seated passion for the local ecosystem. While he spent his early career running a retail tackle shop, James realized his true purpose was on the water rather than behind a counter. In 2003, he founded Fishunter Charters, moving from the suburban market to the open waves of Lake Erie in Dunkirk, NY. Today, he is a recognized authority in the angling community, frequently sharing his specialized knowledge through walleye seminars and professional shows across both New York and Pennsylvania. For Captain James, the most rewarding aspect of guiding is the lasting relationships built with those who return to his boat season after season. He views every trip as an opportunity to connect with people, a philosophy rooted in his most cherished memory: hosting a father and son celebrating the boy's successful victory over leukemia. Witnessing their joy as they reeled in fish together reaffirmed James's belief that a day on the lake is about more than just the sport—it is about celebrating life’s milestones in a peaceful, natural setting. This commitment to his guests ensures that everyone, from novices to seasoned pros, feels like a priority the moment they step onto the deck. What truly defines James’s approach is his dedication to the "full cooler" philosophy and the educational value he provides. Recognizing Lake Erie as the world’s premier walleye destination, he takes a personal stake in every outing, working tirelessly to help guests reach their limits. Unlike standard charters that simply follow a routine, James utilizes an instructional style, explaining the nuances of the strike and the patterns of the fish so that guests leave with improved skills. His goal is to ensure every person experiences the peak of Dunkirk, NY fishing, finding his own success in the satisfied smiles of a group heading home after a productive day on the water.
The Vessel: Engineered for Lake Erie Performance
Your time on the water is spent aboard a 26-foot Sea Swirl, a vessel specifically chosen for its stability and fishability in the diverse conditions of the Great Lakes. Designed to handle the open waters of Lake Erie with ease, the boat offers a spacious and secure platform for groups looking to target trophy walleye, perch, or bass. It is meticulously maintained and outfitted with professional-grade electronics and top-tier trolling gear, ensuring that Captain James has every advantage necessary to locate and stay on the fish. This combination of a high-performance boat and a knowledgeable expert at the helm provides the comfort and reliability needed for a premier New York angling experience.
